The annual test is inline with the requirements set out in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.
This test has to be carried out (and recorded) by a qualified professional e.g., an NICEIC-approved electrician.
Emergency lighting requires a short functional test (flick test) monthly, where you check all lights illuminate briefly, and a full annual inspection (3-hour discharge test), where the main power is cut and lights run for their full duration to check battery health, with all results recorded and any faults fixed promptly by a competent person.
