In busy food and drink environments, electrical appliances are worked hard, often in hot or steamy conditions.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) ensures that electrical equipment is safe to use and applies to any electrical item that can be unplugged and moved from one power supply to another. This is essential for the avoidance of electric shocks, fires, equipment breakdowns and to validate insurance.

Anything with a plug will need to be tested including;

  • Customer usable or reachable equipment such as lamps, gaming machines, coffee machines or heaters
  • Kitchen appliances such as blenders, toasters and microwaves
  • Office equipment such as printers, kettles and computers
  • Bar equipment such as tills, fridges, ice dispensers and drinks pumps
  • Audio equipment and extension leads

During testing we'll ensure that each item is safe to use and that any electrical leads are not showing signs of wear, that plugs are wired correctly and have no naked wires showing, there is no visible sign of overheating or other damage to equipment. Once tested and found to be safe, items will be labelled and dated.

If you're unsure about what needs PAT testing in your bar or restaurant, get in touch with Proton Electrical Contractors - we're based in Nottingham and work throughout the county.
